The 2008 Nehirim Retreat
Registration and financial aid

This year, we are pleased to offer full online registration, and an online financial aid application for students and those in need.

To register, simply click this link and then select "register" on the Elat Chayyim page. You will be prompted for your accommodation preferences and other information. Note that the $235 price is based on triple accommodation; if you choose a single or double, a higher price will be reflected.

Questions about registration? Contact Elat Chayyim at 800-398-2630. Please do not contact Nehirim with any questions about registration, the facility, special needs (wheelchair, vegan, etc.), or any other logistics.

Transportation information: there will be no Nehirim bus this year. Elat Chayyim is located just a few minutes from the Wassaic train station on the Metro North. Pickups at the train station and all other transportation needs are handled through Elat Chayyim. There will also be a ride-share board for the retreat on the Elat Chayyim website. Please -- do not contact us with any questions regarding transportation, as we do not have the infrastructure to answer them.

Financial Aid

Nehirim offers two kinds of financial aid: full scholarships for students, and need-based subsidies for those who require them. In both cases, you must contact Nehirim via email before you pay for your retreat. However, you can register for the retreat and not pay; simply include a note that you are applying for financial aid. This way, you can reserve your spot.

For a student scholarship, simply send an email to Nehirim with the following information:
- Your name, age, and school
- Why you want to attend Nehirim (1 paragraph)
- Your Jewish affiliation and involvement (1 paragraph)
- Anything else about your story that you'd like to tell us

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis, so the longer you wait, the less likely scholarships will still be available. "Don't delay - apply today." Please note that an application represents your commitment to come to the weekend if you are granted aid. It is very unfair to apply for aid and then cancel; last year we had to turn away several applicants, and then at the last minute two people canceled their registration. That deprived those other students of the opportunity to come.

For general need-based financial aid, send an email to Nehirim with the following information:
- Your name and location
- How much aid you need
- Tell us a little about yourself: your work, your story, the background

Aid applications are considered on a rolling basis, so you are encouraged to apply early. Please note that Nehirim is a small, non-profit organization. We are only able to offer financial aid thanks to the great generosity of our supporters. We are asking you to please request only the amount that you need, not the amount that you want. We do not ask for tax returns or any kind of documentation; we trust you. In exchange, we hope that you will understand that you are not applying to a large institution; you're applying to a grass-roots organization with limited resources. Please apply -- the money is there for you, to enable you to come. We simply ask that you reflect on your ability to pay and ask for what's needed to allow you to join us.

Finally, if you would like to support Nehirim, you may sponsor another participant by clicking the "Support Nehirim" link at left. Nehirim is under the fiscal sponsorship of the Jewish FundS for Justice, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Thank you!
