Nehirim is a national, nondenominational organization
devoted to creating spiritual and cultural community for Jews
who are members of sexual or gender minorities. Founded in 2003,
Nehirim's flagship event are its spiritual weekend retreats,
which bring approximately 120 GLBT Jews, partners, and allies
together for three days of community and spirituality.
Nehirim is now seeking two student interns to support our important, vital, and innovative work. Interns will work remotely -- we're a small, grass-roots organization with a volunteer faculty and dedicated staff. Work will include:
Support, planning, and logistics for Nehirim's 2007 retreat, to be held May 18-20 (interns will come for free)
Networking, particularly in the student community
Helping with marketing and public relations: letting people know about Nehirim, getting the word out about what we do, etc.
Development of new initiatives for the organization
Support for Nehirim's staff in a variety of ways, ranging from research to travel assistance, program support to administrative help
A Nehirim internship is a fantastic opportunity to work hands-on in a grassroots queer Jewish environment. We are making a difference; our retreats are transformative, and our speaking engagements around the country have had a measurable impact on the struggle for GLBT equality in the religious world. And because we are small, you will learn a lot, interact with other people, and get more than an ace resume item and experience with one of the most connected young Jews in the country -- you'll make a difference yourself.
Applicants must have strong verbal skills, self-motivation, and a commitment to Jewish spiritual life, GLBT community, and the work of Nehirim. You must make a commitment to at least 16 hours per month (four hours/week), for at least three months. College credit is available if your university offers it for internships -- requirements will depend on your college.
