Advocacy

Nehirim’s work encompasses advocacy on a variety of LGBT issues in the public sphere. We are a leading voice in the Jewish community for marriage equality, transgender equity, LGBT youth homelessness, and other issues. We have hosted direct service days, coordinated campaigns, and, with our fellow LGBT Jewish organizations, represented the Jewish community at national events such as the Creating Change conference and the GA.

In 2011 and 2012, over 3,000 people came to Nehirim advocacy events related to our founder Jay Michaelson’s bestselling book, God vs. Gay? The Religious Case for Equality. And in 2012 and 2013, Nehirim is sponsoring the national tour for Dr. Joy Ladin’s memoir, Through the Door of Life, which raises awareness about the gifts and challenges of being transgender in the Jewish community.
