Jewish Spirituality for Gay Men
Is there a “gay spirituality,” and if so, what is it? Â What roles can feminist gay and bisexual men claim in 21st century Jewish life, at once recognizing male privilege but affirming maleness? Â How can old archetypes in the Bible, Jewish mystical life, and Jewish folklore — from initiation rites to the kiddush club — be reclaimed and queered today? Â And what is it about Jewish masculinity that is able to run the gamut from ineffectual nebbish to horny Philip Roth sex fiend to hyper-macho Israeli soldier? Â Â In this dinner conversation, sponsored by the Congregation Shaar Zahav Mensch Group, we’ll explore some of these issues together.
