Welcome! Nehirim (“Lights”) is a national community of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) Jews, together with our straight and non-Jewish allies, committed to creating a more inclusive and just religious world. Nehirim’s programs transform lives, support those in need, and promote equality and diversity based on the teachings of the Jewish tradition.

Nehirim runs three types of programs: weekend retreats, community programming in New York and San Francisco, and nationwide events related to Nehirim founder Jay Michaelson’s new book, God vs. Gay? The Religious Case for Equality. All kinds of folks come to Nehirim events: religious, secular, queer, straight allies, Jewish, non-Jewish partners and families, and people of all different sexual orientations, gender identities, economic backgrounds, ethnic backgrounds, and ages. Some Nehirim events are focused on spirituality, others on politics and culture, and some are just fun. Nehirim is proud to be cosponsoring our founder Jay Michaelson’s book tour in support of his new book, which Publisher’s Weekly has called “a salvo in the case for equality,” God vs. Gay? The Religious Case for Equality.
